The operations of the Arken Combi Terminal (ACT) have been officially inaugurated at the Port of Gothenburg, where the new facility rests next to the container and ro-ro terminals.

The 65k m2 big terminal is expected to handle over 100k trailers a year. Already today the ACT is taking care of seven trains per day, i.e. two more than its predecessor, the now closed terminal at Gullbergsvass.

Part of the old terminal will be converted into urban areas, whereas the Swedish Transport Administration, with the help of the Gothenburg port, will set up the West Rail 8.0 km long double-track rail link on the remaining premises.

"The Arken Combi Terminal is a long-awaited piece in the puzzle at the Port of Gothenburg. The market has been looking for ways of handling more goods more efficiently, and the city needs the former terminal area to press ahead with its urban development programme. We are pleased that we were able to respond rapidly to these wishes. At last we have a solid intermodal solution in place," said Magnus Kårestedt, CEO, Gothenburg Port Authority, commented.

Lena Erixon, Director General, Swedish Transport Administration, added, "A new combi terminal in a location that is close to industry and the port opens up further potential for establishing a more efficient flow between road, rail and sea. We also have the added benefit of reduced pressure on the road system in the centre of Gothenburg with the rerouting of heavy vehicle traffic."
