The Swedish seaport (part of the Port of Halland) is, as of 1 June 2023, included in the weekly sea container service that also calls to Antwerp and Copenhagen.
The inaugural berthing was carried out by the 161 by 25 m MSC SUEDEROOG F, offering 1,368 TEUs of capacity.
According to the port authority, the addition has the potential to up Halmstad's yearly container traffic by as much as 25%.
The service is expected to carry household, electronic and fast-moving consumer goods, as well as recycled materials and forest products.
"This here is a positive contribution to our offering in the container segment, where we can now add another shipping line with high capacity and good service to our existing partnerships. The range offered by the carriers that call Halmstad is attractive for the companies in the region and give the industry increased import and export alternatives when they get access to MSC's broad linear network of global destinations," said Henrik Nanfeldt, the Port of Halland's COO.
He furthered, "We are well equipped to handle calls of such capacity, offering effective and sustainable operations. Together with planned investments on the rail side and with our digital advance notification system for hauliers, we have also created the conditions for efficient access to the port."
