The parties have signed a two-year agreement, following which they will scrutinise the conditions under which the Port of Varberg can function as a supply harbour for the Galene offshore wind energy (OWE) farm.
OX2 will set up an office and a warehouse in the Swedish seaport with quay access to serve the 400MW installation (21 wind turbines some 20 km off Halland's coast).
"We are very optimistic about the agreement with OX2, which will create conditions for a long-lasting partnership that will contribute to electricity supply security and Halland's green transition. We will also get the opportunity to strengthen the operations in Varberg with yet another segment in addition to being Sweden's leading forest harbour," commented Henrik Nanfeldt, COO at the Port of Halland (the joint authority of the seaports in Halmstad and Varberg).
Emelie Zakrisson, Head of Offshore Wind Development Sweden with OX2, added, "We are looking forward to contributing to the development of the Port of Varberg by establishing an office, warehouse, and operations. The port will play a central role in building and then operating Galene, which will produce a significant amount of cost-effective and renewable electricity in the region."
