The Finnish seaport has partnered with the Rauma-based Notra to upgrade the ship-to-shore (STS) gantry it purchased from BCT Baltic Container Terminal Gdynia last autumn.
The parties have already ordered modernisation components, while the dismantling of the current crane technology will start at the beginning of June 2024.
The gantry will get a new operating system. Its mechanical parts, including engines and brakes, will be serviced (and refurbished if need be). The crane will also get a dry bulk-handling grapple.
Meanwhile, the Port of Kokkola is setting up a new crane track in its Silverstone Port, where the upgraded STS will be commissioned in September ahead of going online in November.
Kokkola's container crane, originally manufactured by Konecranes, can serve ships 17-row-wide, handling up to 60 TEUs per hour.
