The Swedish seaport will grow with a 70,000-tonne-capacity facility for handling steel and other metal products.
The SEK40 million investment (about €3.5m) is scheduled for completion by May 2025.
"This development has been made possible thanks to the Ports of Halland's investments as well as the expansion of Quay 800 and other new terminal areas. When the Quay 800 project will be ready in the autumn of 2025, we will transfer all the handling of recycling material to the new port part, which will give us a unique opportunity to grow the turnover of steel and metals in the inner harbour. At the same time, we will improve security in the port area and give the city better access to the Nissan River," commented Henrik Nanfeldt, the Ports of Halland's COO.
Patrik Christiansson, Schéle's Chairperson, also said, "Our longstanding cooperation with the Ports of Halland has been a key to our success. The new steel centre will enable us to better our customer service, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and sustainability. We see this as an important step in our continued growth."
Peter Christiansson, the company's CEO, underlined, "We are very enthusiastic about the possibilities this project will open. It is a clear example of how through collaboration we can create value for our customers and the entire region."
To this Henrik Nanfeldt added, "At the Ports of Halland we are proud to provide an infrastructure that drives our customers' growth and development. The new steel centre is an important part of our development strategy that extends our offering and enables offensive port construction investments."
