The German Baltic seaport has chosen Fintraffic's POLO Port Activity app to expand the situational picture available to the port authority and to enhance various harbour operations through digitalisation.
The open ecosystem POLO Port Activity service allows ports to use and develop the service according to their own needs with the partners of their choice. Among others, POLO provides real-time arrival and departure times for ships, emission calculations, quay and resource planning, ship notifications for the EU area, an invoicing functionality, tug and pilot requests as well as requests for water and waste management.
"We are proud to welcome the Port of Lübeck, which is among the key ports of the Baltic Sea, as POLO Port Activity's client. Expanding use of the port application to Germany is a major step for us, with which we can promote smooth and environmentally friendly maritime transport and logistics throughout the Baltic Sea region. The collaboration is off to a flying start, and the service, which enhances port operations, is due to be introduced gradually at the Port of Lübeck from the beginning of next year," said Jouni Patrakka, Director of Fintraffic's Vessel Traffic Services.
Guido Kaschel, Head of the Lübeck Port Authority, added, "As our operational management and planning tool, POLO Port Activity will allow us to develop the operations and increase their efficiency using real-time vessel and port data. With it, the Port of Lübeck and its actors will be able to form a comprehensive situational picture and to act in a faster, more flexible and more reliable manner. The service also improves data integration, reduces the chance of errors and speeds up reaction times when changes are needed, which creates a basis for reliable and accurate decision-making in traffic control."
The port also shared in a press brief, "Fintraffic's POLO Port Activity service was selected as the Lübeck Port Authority's service partner through a tender process organised in autumn 2024. In particular, the comprehensive service provided by POLO Port Activity (the SaaS model) was a factor in the decision. The model best supported the port's objectives of developing not only quay planning but also joint situational awareness, communication between stakeholders, service orders, a situational picture based on map and geographical data and warnings, as well as various reporting needs. The delivery project has already been launched, and the goal is to introduce the full daily service in the Port of Lübeck during 2025."
