Shipbuilders from CIMC Raffles Yantai have delivered Skipanes to the Faroese shipping company, which will place her on trade between Denmark, the Netherlands, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland.

The GT 30,301 newbuild is 189.5-metre long and 27.2 m-wide, offering 3,300 lane metres across four decks. The freighter, designed by KNUD E. HANSEN, features methanol-capable engines and a battery pack. Skipanes' carbon footprint is estimated to be 60% lower than Smyril Line's older tonnage.

Originally, the sister ship, Akranes, was expected by the end of the year; however, there was a shaft generator accident during the sea trial, as reported by KVF, meaning her delivery may be delayed.
