Tyrfing, the brand-new electric ferry of Molslinjen's subsidiary Samsølinjen, will charge from a 12-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Port of Ballen on the Danish island of Samsø.
Construction is set to begin this autumn/winter, with the BESS expected to come online in March 2027. BOS Power will supply the batteries, while Hybrid Greentech advised Molslinjen on the project.
Beyond fast-charging the ferry, the facility will help stabilise the island's grid in day-to-day operation and serve as an emergency power supply in crisis situations.
Featuring a 3.8-MWh battery pack, Tyrfing offers room for 600 passengers and 188 vehicles, operating the Ballen-Kalundborg route with up to five daily round trips.
