The Swedish seaport saw the installation of a containerised 4MWh battery storage system (BSS), testing of which will take place this autumn.
"Having the battery storage system in place marks another important step in the development of our energy system. It will enable us to make even better use of the renewable electricity we generate ourselves [17 million kWh/year from two wind turbines], reduce peak loads, and support the continued electrification of the port. We are now looking forward to the testing phase and, once completed, putting the system into operation," said Håkan Nilsson, Technical Development Manager at the Port of Trelleborg.
A press briefing from his seaport also reads, "The battery storage system will allow more of the electricity generated by the port to be stored when supply is high and used when demand peaks. This provides greater flexibility in the port's energy use and supports the continued expansion of onshore power supply."
