Following the installation of protection screens, coal dust suppression equipment, and air & water quality monitoring systems, the Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT) has started taking care of coal shipments.
According to Global Ports, ULCT's operator (but in which EUROGATE currently has a 20% effective ownership interest), up to 1.0mt/year of coal can be shipped through the terminal. The inaugural export shipment took place on 27 December 2018.
ULCT's container handling capacity has remained the same and as much as 440k TEUs/year can be processed at the facility. However, since the start of its operations ULCT has been underutilised. In the January-November 2018 period, a total of 65,715 TEUs was handled, down by 5.4% on the result from the corresponding period in 2017.
