Erik Thun and Thun Tankers have commissioned China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) for building another dual-fuel vessel.
The 17,999 dwt, 1A ice-class ship, offering 20,306 m3 of cargo capacity spread across 12 tanks, will be delivered in 2024 and enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance (GTA).
The ship will be able to draw power from the shore to run its cargo pumps.
Furetank, Erik Thun's partner within the GTA, will manage the newbuild technically and commercially.
"It is excellent news that Erik Thun continues to engage in the development of Gothia Tanker Alliance. It helps us to achieve even better environmental benefits. We will run 15 dual-fuel tankers of the highest eco-standard with this vessel. It increases the effectiveness of our logistics and lowers the climate impact when we always have the right vessel for every transport, thereby minimising the time spent in ballast," Lars Höglund, Furetank's CEO, commented.
Johan Källsson, CEO of Erik Thun, added, "Sustainability has always been and will continue to be in the centre of Erik Thun's attention. To make this order of a resource-efficient, top performing oil products tanker and deepen our good and long-lasting partnership with Furetank is a splendid example of our vision of being a sustainable Swedish partner for generations to come."
