The Finnish shipping line's fleet will grow with three 1,200 TEUs big carriers in 2024.

In collaboration with the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, Langh Ship has designed the 150 by 27 m, 8.75 m draft, 1A ice-class ships for carrying 45' containers both in the holds and on deck.

The newbuildings will be equipped with two-stroke, slow-speed main engines (suitable for running on biofuel) and hybrid scrubbers (from Langh Ship's sister company Langh Tech).

The container ships will albo be carbon capture-ready (for a system also developed by Langh Tech).

The vessels will be prepared for shore power connection and a hybrid solution, including batteries.

In addition, Langh Tech will supply the LanghBW Systems ballast water management system (BWMS).

The PaxOcean shipyard in Zhoushan will deliver the first vessel in August 2024.

"In the European market, we see a need for this type and size of container feeders. By optimising the hull lines, we managed to maximise the cargo capacity and, at the same time, minimise the energy consumption, still keeping a speed of 18 knots if needed. I am proud of our team who continuously stays at the front edge of the latest technical development, tests new innovations and even develops new solutions ourselves," she continues," Laura Langh-Lagerlöf, Langh Ship's Managing Director, highlighted.

Kim Tervonen, Langh Tech's Product Manager, added, "It is exciting to get new vessels into our sister company's fleet as on these vessels it is easy for us to do piloting of various new concepts. There will be at least the hybrid scrubber, carbon capture and BWMS delivered by Langh Tech, let's see what we will come up with in addition to that."

Meanwhile, the Wuhu Shipyard is working on three 7,800 dwt multipurpose vessels for Langh Ship.
