After signing a three-year lease agreement, Gothenburg Roro Terminal will take over the operations on 11 December 2022.
The 65k m2 facility handles containers and ro-ro cargo units, up to 90k/year. It has seven rail tracks, totalling 3,360 m.
Arken Intermodal Terminal came online at the turn of 2017/2018 and was operated by Sandahls Logistik.
"There are many new opportunities that this will enable us to realise – not least when Arken's link to intra-European ro-ro shipping becomes clearer. For example, we'll be able to link up the terminal's extensive rail traffic from Norrland to the upcoming green shipping corridor via Ghent, for onward transport to Turkey," Maria Franksen, CEO of Gothenburg Roro Terminal, commented.
Jill Söderwall, VP Business Areas & Partner Management at the Gothenburg Port Authority, added, "There's growing interest in running trains to the Arken Intermodal Terminal, and the new agreement with Gothenburg Roro Terminal will enable continued success for intermodal traffic at the Port of Gothenburg. The Arken Intermodal Terminal's location and its proximity to the ro-ro terminal is a major benefit that can now be used even more efficiently by the Port's customers and partners."
