The Finnish seaport, which first replaced oil in October 2022 with district heating to keep its port house warm, is now heating its premises with renewable energy & waste heat.
"After a year and a half of switching to district heating [which alone reduced Oulu's carbon footprint by 32%], the port made a decision to switch to carbon-neutral district heating," the Port of Oulu said in a press release.
The change forms part of Oulu's general target of making its operations carbon-neutral.
