The Ystad-based company, part of the Finnish ESL Shipping, will invest around €70m in six 5,350 dwt-big vessels to be constructed at the Indian Chowgule shipyard.
The 1A ice-class ships, offering 7,650 m3 of capacity, will be 90 m-long and 16 m-wide.
The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in Q3 2023. The contract includes an option for more ships.
According to AtoB@C Shipping, the newbuilds' level of greenhouse gas emissions will be 50% lower than that of the existing ships.
Thanks to batteries and drawing power from the shore, the new ships' port calls, arrivals, and departures will be emission- and noise-free.
The Dutch SMB Naval Architects have been involved in the ship design work and comprehensive model tests.
"With this order we are able to offer our customers more environmentally friendly transports and respond to the growing demand. This order will also secure us eco-friendly and modern capacity in the coming years," Frida Rowland, Business Unit Director, AtoB@C Shipping, said.
