The Swedish shipping line has entrusted China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzho) with building three 15k dwt product/biofuel tankers, set for delivery in spring 2025.
Designed by Kongsberg, the 14-segregation newbuildings will feature dual-fuel engines (methanol & biofuel-ready), batteries and onshore power supply connectors. They will also be prepared for the addition of wind assistance propulsion.
"In addition to the 40% of CO2 reductions, we made on previous vessels the wind assistance will further reduce the emissions by 8%, and with methanol's low-carbon and potential in decarbonization, we accelerate our pathway to net zero. The efficient design results in an EEDI between 16-40% below the 2025 Phase 3 requirements," Terntank underlined in a press release.
The company also highlighted, "According to the new builds program, the vessel design follows strict standards to utilize the best possible working environment for the crew working on board, making the vessels a prime example of a long-term sustainable working place."
Terntank's owners summed up by saying, "We are very grateful to have such good cooperation with our customers, which enables us to continuously develop and improve these already state-of-art vessels, and align us with our net zero emission target 2040."
