The Finnish manufacturer of port cargo handling equipment has won a public machinery supply tender from Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) for a new sea container facility in the Danish capital.
The order consists of eight hybrid straddle carriers, to be delivered in Q4 2023, and two ship-to-shore gantries, scheduled for delivery in Q1 2025.
The 2025-ready 165k m2 container terminal will be located at Ydre Nordhavn, a few kilometres from the current 140k m2 one at Levantkaj. The new facility will offer 550 m of 12.5 m deep quay wall (2.5 m deeper than now).
Refilling some 100 ha of land has been carried out at Ydre Nordhavn to make room for the container terminal (as well as accommodate 28 ha of a new nature park).
"It will be a future-proof terminal that will serve customers at a high level and ensure the best possible supply of goods and products to Zealand. In such a busy port we demand high performance from our equipment, but we also want to be one of the most sustainable ports in the world by 2025. In our evaluation process, sustainability was one of the most important factors. The hybrid straddle carriers from Konecranes provide the same power as fully diesel machines while significantly lowering on-site exhaust emissions," explained Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, CMP's COO.
Mikael Johansson, Sales Manager, Port Solutions, Konecranes, added, "CMP is serious about sustainability and so is Konecranes. Our Ecolifting approach is a good fit with CMP's sustainable approach. Their trust in our technology and expertise will be rewarded as they move into a new and exciting period in the history of the port. We look forward to continuing our work with them for many years to come."
