Ferus Smit's shipyard in the Dutch Westerbroek has launched Lidan, a 89 by 13.35 metres, 5,100-tonne-deadweight, 206 thousand cubic feet of capacity, Ice Class 1B hybrid dry bulk carrier for the Swedish Erik Thun Group.
The carrier's battery packs enable peak shaving and power smoothing. The vessel can also draw power from the shore.
"With a large diameter propeller operating within a nozzle, it delivers increased thrust at lower speeds, reducing power demand during challenging seaways and ice-breaking operations. This advanced design allows us to reduce the installed main engine power by 18% without compromising performance, resulting in a decrease in fuel usage and carbon emissions," the shipping company from Sweden underlined in a press release.
Five other sister ships of Lidan have been ordered for traffic through the Trollhätte Canal and across the Vänern Lake.
