Fredericia Shipping, Associated Danish Ports (ADP), and APM Terminals have launched Fredericia Container Terminal (FCT), a JV that will operate the box handling facilities in Fredericia and Taulov.
Following ADP's recent expansion, the seaport in Fredericia now offers 150,000 square metres of container space, including 485 metres of quay wall. The container part of the dry port in Taulov spans over 50k m2.
Fredericia Shipping, the majority owner of the FCT, will be responsible for the management, administration, and operation of the terminal as before. To this Lars Vang Christensen, Regional Head of Joint Ventures & Strategic Partnerships, Africa & Europe at APM Terminals, added, "APM Terminals can support Fredericia Container Terminal in the operation and development of an independent terminal with our international experience in, among other things, operational expertise and safety. In the new collaboration at the Port of Fredericia, we can facilitate the growth we expect in Western Denmark, and we will jointly look at how and which investments can further improve the efficiency of the container terminal."
Rune D. Rasmussen, CEO, ADP, also commented, "With our investment in the port expansion and securing capacity for the increasing container growth, which has been constant over recent years, we are even more ready to meet the trend: shipping companies are looking towards ports that are close to the final destination of the goods. This trend also contributes to the growth of the Port of Fredericia, and therefore we also expect to invest in further development with Fredericia Container Terminal within a few years."
Klaus Andersen, CEO of Fredericia Shipping and FCT, shared, "We are looking forward to the new collaboration at Fredericia Container Terminal, now with APM Terminals as part of the ownership structure. We are pleased with the new competencies that Fredericia Container Terminal will thus be provided with, and not least the investment power that this brings with it. We expect to have to invest significantly in new equipment in the coming years to benefit both the terminal's efficiency and its green transition. At the same time, we expect that the new ownership will be able to contribute with even more flexible solutions to our customers at a continued independent and neutral terminal."
In 2024, the Port of Fredericia took care of 124,000 TEUs, up 22.8% year-on-year.
